Tidewater Orchid Society
Newsletter

August/September 2005

Meeting: August 28, 2 PM, Norfolk Botanical Gardens. John Zukosky will talk to us about warm growing Miltoniae.  He’ll have Miltonia spectabilis var moreliana and crosses for sale.

President’s Message

I would like to welcome all members back from the summer. I hope you and your orchids did not suffer too much from all the heat. Our first meeting will be in the old auditorium. It is going to be a little different though. The gardens have cut the room in half to make offices, so plants will have to be on display in the rotunda. Please try and get there a little early as I know you will want to talk to old friends you have not seen for three months.

I would like to thank Joanne Bryan for all the hard work she has put in as President these last two years. She is still working on the committee for the Merritt Huntingdon Symposium this coming November. This promises to be a great day, with three different speakers talking about Cattleyas, plus selling them, along with a couple of other venders selling their orchids. I would like to see a good turn out from the Tidewater Orchid Society, so bring your checkbooks and reserve your tickets.

The Society dues are due so do not forget to pay them or you might end up not being in the members list.

Because there was a vacancy for trustee, with Sharon Peterson becoming treasurer, Alan Adair kindly offered to fill the void. A business meeting was held July 12, where he was nominated by Charles Rhodes, seconded by Jon Herrell, and voted for unanimously by the board.

I have a lot to bring to the members at this meeting so please plan to attend.

Refreshments will be supplied by the board members at this meeting.

                         David W.
