TIDEWATER ORCHID SOCIETY NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2009

Next Meeting: October 4, 2PM, Old Dominion University Webb Center Cafeteria:

Donated Plant Auction. If you have extra plants and no room in your greenhouse for them consider donating to the society. No limit on donations and all will be sold by the end of the day.

President’s Message

Our next meeting, October 4th at ODU at 2:00 P.M., will be our donated plant auction with the plants provided by our membership. Please bring in extra divisions or plants you no longer wish to grow and donate them to be auctioned.  Your continued generosity is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for all the members who brought so many beautiful orchids to the meeting in August. As you may have noticed we are trying new ways to keep track of the orchids brought in for the informal show table judging. This will make it easier for us to keep records.  Please be careful when you fill out the forms so that we can get the names correct. The results will now be published on our website.

Our Show Committee, headed by Frank Drew, put on a fantastic exhibit at the Zoo on September 12 and 13th. I would like to thank the following members for helping either with providing plants and/or helping with the exhibit: Joanne and Dave Bryan, Christine Cross, Daisy and Bob DeCoudres, Lori Delbridge, Frank Drew, Gil Gillespie, David Gray, Jamie Krochmal, Ruta Mah, Don and Ken Peterson, Dot Pierce, Randy Schonk, Patsy Temple, Becky Tupper, Grace and Stephan Valovic, Tom Ward and David Wheatley. Way to go members!

Please continue to loan your plants for exhibitions as we continue to become more active as an orchid society. Also, if you can help put in exhibits or transport plants to and from shows please let Frank Drew know. Our next show is in October at the National Capitol Orchid Society Show the weekend after our meeting. We are in great need to have enough plants to put on an exhibit that will make us proud. Please allow the society to borrow the plants you are bringing to our show table this month. Just remember to put your name on the pots so we can get them back to you.  Remember we have never lost a plant yet.

I look forward to seeing you at this upcoming meeting.
