Presidents Message:

Thanks for your great support of the October orchid plant auction.  This month our speaker will be from New Vision Orchids.  I hope you can all attend.

On a sad note, I wish to offer Mitzi Lipford my and the whole society’s sincerest condolences on the passing of our dear member Cliff Lipford.  Our hearts go out to you at this very difficult time.

This year we will be looking at updating our society’s bylaws and operating guidelines.  At this time the society has a sales table that is for the sale of members’ plants only according to our Operational Guidelines, Article III: Auctions and Plant Sales.  A copy of the current Bylaws and Operational Guidelines is available through the Membership Desk.

Sincerely,

Ruta Mah

The Kaplan Conservatory:

The Conservatory will be open at 1 PM on TOS Sunday meeting dates for Society members to come and browse around. [Please note that this is one hour before the regular meeting starts]. Get there early enough to visit. You’ll see many plants in bloom and growing well.

Beginners Classes:

Are you interested in a beginners' class?  We're planning a series of very basic orchid growing classes starting as soon as enough people have expressed an interest.  The classes will be held at the Kaplan Conservatory and Greenhouse at ODU one Saturday morning a month.  These will last 1 to 1 1/2 hours and will eventually cover all the major genera.  If you are a TOS member and think this would be helpful please put your name and phone number on the sign-up sheet.  You will be contacted. These are free to members. [Editor’s note: If you can’t attend the next meeting and want to take the class send a e-mail or note to me and I’ll forward the information to Mitzi.]
