TIDEWATER ORCHID SOCIETY NEWSLETTER

MARCH 2009

Next Meeting: Mar. 1, 2009, 2PM, Webb Center Cafeteria: Carol Allen will speak on pests and diseases affecting orchids.

President’s Message

February was a short but busy month.  Charles did a great job with the Home and Flower Show booth.  The set-up with fabrics and colors showed the orchids beautifully.  So, thank you to Charles and those who helped set-up and man the booth.

Also Dave and Joanne Bryan led a team up to Richmond for our first out of town display in the past couple of years.  They did a great job putting in a lovely display and they came home with a ribbon.  Thank you first to Dave and Joanne for taking on the leadership role and to everyone who got involved in bringing plants, setting-up and tearing-down.  Hopefully this will be one of many shows we will be involved with in the future.

February’s program was a great lecture on growing cattleyas by Fred Clarke.  Unfortunately by skipping the break I did not leave adequate time for the orchid display table judging.  So there were no judging results for February.  I apologize to those who brought plants for judging, but even more so to Laura who tried very hard to get the job done despite my error.

See you all in March.

Thanks

Ruta Mah
