Next Meeting:
Jan. 11, 2009, 2PM, Webb Center Cafeteria:
Please note, this is the second Sunday. Arthur
Chadwick from Chadwick Orchid will give a lecture that he gave in Australia
called 'The Large Flowered Cattleya Species'. He is bringing lots of rare catts
to sell, too.
President’s Message
Happy
New Year to all!
Our January meeting is the second Sunday of January (the 11th). It promises to
be a great program by Arthur Chadwick Jr. and also sales of some hard to find
cattleyas. This sounds like a wonderful combination. What more could you ask
for?
After the meeting we will have a session about orchid shows and how to
put together a display. It should be a great stepping stone toward future shows.
Consider staying and getting involved.
Also thank you to Charles Scott and the catering staff at ODU. I think a good
time was had by all.
Thanks
Ruta Mah

Membership
Beginners' class meets 10:30 am Jan. 17 in the
Conservatory. Steve Urick will present a program about GREENHOUSES and how to
select, where locate, appropriate size, maintenance and how to set up for orchid
growing. If you've ever thought about buying a greenhouse this program is for
you. And even if you're not in the market at the present time, this program will
save you from making costly errors when you are. We still have room for a few
more beginners and if you're interested in joining you can sign up at the Jan.
meeting.
Thanks,

Mid
Atlantic Home and Flower Show
We’ll have an information
table at the show but we need volunteers to talk to people about our society and
goals, and to take names and e mails for further info. Sign-up sheets will be
available at the January meeting for two hour shifts, two to a shift. So if you
like talking about orchids consider a couple of shifts. It’s always fun.
