Tidewater Orchid Society Newsletter

February 2006

Meeting: February 5th, 2006  2:00 PM Mills Godwin Auditorium ODU

Phylis Erikson of Ironwood Estate Orchids will be with us, topic to be announced. She will bring plants to sell

Presidents Message:

We started off the New Year with a good attendance and a good speaker. Mark Werther gave an interesting talk on Broughtonias, and he and Ken Peterson discussed some of our orchids out in the foyer. Members always bring a lot of first class orchids and this was no exception. I only had time to glance at a few, but Carolyn Alliss's huge white Cattleyas stood out, and when I think of Paphiopedilums  Evalyn Walch springs to mind. She always has great plants. As far as I am concerned the spicerianum and the white venustum are a couple of my favorites. To spend a little longer admiring Evalyn’s Paphiopedilums visit the society’s web site- like I did- and see some more of her orchids.

I hope that some of the newer members visited the Virginia Flower and Garden show. They would see the societies display because in a show they are arranged so much different to how you see them at our meetings.

Do not forget we now go back to our regular schedule of meeting the first Sunday of every month.
