President’s Message

Sorry I missed you all in January and thank you to Evalyn Walch for stepping in for me. This is an exciting month for those attending the World Orchid Congress.  It will be great to hear and see our member’s impressions of the WOC.

We are scheduled for a society booth at the Home and Flower Show.  It is 8’ X  8’ in size with an electrical outlet. The Show is February 15th to the 17th.  We will be looking for volunteers to set up and man the booth at our next meeting.  If you will not be at the meeting but are interested in helping e-mail me at garymah3@cox.net.  I hope to see you all in February.

Thanks

Ruta Mah

CONSERVATION NEWS

The second report on the TOS home gardening project (Goodyera pubescens and Aplectrum hyemale) was distributed to the members at the January 2008 meeting.  You can get a copy per email at ajzuckerwar@yahoo.com.  You will also find it on the TOS web site under the “Conservation” tab.

There are still many outstanding questionnaires dating back to 2004.   If you received any of the following plants, please send me your information for Spiranthes cernua (2004), Calopogon puchellus (2005), Cypripedium calceolus II (2006), and Platanthera ciliaris (2007).  You can send the requested information by email.  Remember, even an unsuccessful cultivation can provide valuable information.  The questionnaire can be found on the TOS web site.

Many thanks to Evalyn Walch for the photos of Spiranthes cernua.  Your photos are always welcome and are archived in our photo album.
