President’s Message
November was
a great orchid month. Starting with
our monthly meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing our own learned colleagues
speak on Orchid Judging. Tom Ward, Ken Peterson and Plato Mathews gave a fun
talk and discussion about the vagaries of this subject. This was then followed
by Rob Griesbach’s TOS sponsored talk at ODU on the following Thursday. This
then ushered in the 4th Merritt Huntington Symposium. Thank you to
all the members who supported these events. I think all who attended enjoyed the
speakers and talks greatly. And we look forward to the 5th Merritt
Huntington Symposium.
December is around the corner and this brings us to our Annual Awards
Banquet and Holiday Party. We have made changes this year. The date is December
14th (the second Sunday of the month) at 5:30 PM at the Webb Center
on the ODU Campus. The room is directly adjacent to our usual meeting room; the
entrance is just to the right of regular entry doors. We start with appetizers
and a cash bar. A sumptuous dinner is planned with a carving station, a pasta
station and a salad station. Choices will include beef, turkey and salmon with
potatoes and vegetables, penne pasta and ravioli with spinach or seafood with
your choice of sauces and tossed or Caesar salad. So don’t miss out on this
great meal and of course there are the awards and door prizes as always. If you
haven’t already made your reservation, please send your check for $25 per

rare catts to sell, too.
