President’s Message

We had a great May Auction. Thank you to Arthur for arranging for the plants. They were beautiful and brought top dollar to the society. Thanks also to all the members who helped with housing, delivering, organizing and distributing the plants. But also we couldn’t have done it without all the members and guests who generously bid on the orchids in our purchased plant auction

Here we are at the June picnic and auction.  This has been a great year. We had many great speakers with interesting programs thanks to Evalyn’s hard work. Meanwhile Mitzi has done a great job with membership and the beginner classes. I want to thank Jo for all her hard work on judging and awards for these past several years. I also want to thank all the committee heads for all of their hard work this past year.

We had a lovely display at the Zoo thanks to Gill and Charles. This will hopefully lead to further displays and shows in our future.

This year was also marked by the grand opening of The Arthur and Phyllis Kaplan Orchid Conservatory at ODU. What a grand place to enjoy and work with orchids. With this we have opportunities for our members to work at and be part of a greenhouse dedicated to orchids. We also have a new home for our orphaned library and as it gets settled in, we can grow our library along with the orchids.

I also want to take a moment to remember and honor members and family of members who we lost over this past year.  They are our in our hearts and thoughts.

Our annual potluck picnic will be at the Botanical Gardens June 1st. We will have the induction ceremony for our officers and auction of plants. So bring our extra plants.

I hope to see you there.

Thanks

Ruta Mah

June Auction

The rules for the June auction are very simple. You are allowed to bring up to five plants (sometimes this is waived, ask Ruta) and the society gets 25% of the proceeds. If you don’t wish to receive any cash donations to the Society are greatly appreciated. This is always a fun auction and you can get some nice plants inexpensively. So come out and join us.
